Saw Cutting

Saw cutting is the process of cutting control joints into freshly hardened concrete using a specialist concrete saw. These joints are carefully planned and cut to create weakened lines in the slab, which help control where cracks will occur as the concrete naturally shrinks and moves over time.

Without saw cuts, concrete can crack randomly, often in unsightly or structurally problematic places. By introducing saw cuts at the right depth and spacing, any cracking is directed along neat, straight lines, preserving both the strength and appearance of the slab.

Key benefits of saw cutting include:

  • Reducing the risk of uncontrolled cracking

  • Extending the lifespan of the slab

  • Providing a clean, professional finish

  • Suitable for both internal floors and external slabs

Saw cuts are typically made within 6–18 hours after pouring (depending on the mix and weather), when the concrete is strong enough to cut but not so hard that it chips or ravel.
